What to do with leftover wood?

The problem:

code

Category: sustainable design

Here you have a leading company producing garage doors in South Africa. During the production process, about 15% of the wood needed is thrown away. A bit of a waste, if you ask us. What could we do and propose to do with it?

i think the left over pieces can be used for walk ways instead of using bricks/cobble stones and paving stones. it could possibly also be used to make screens

As a big manufacturer of doors it would be beneficial for them to get into re-processing the wood as particle boards/ compressed wood. The wood can be used for any indoor construction purpose/furniture etc.

make it available to the hundreds of homes that need repair and building work done to them.

This is not a pile of waste. This is an artwork by arne quinze.
He made several beautiful sculptures in pieces of wood see: http://www2.quinzeandmilan.tv/

Ask him to design a chair or a table. The problem then will be that it is very labor intensive and hence expensive to make this chair/table like this. So let's combine it with a social program and have it produced in for example workshops of homeless pĂȘople or similar. The profits could be used to support this social program.

The campana brothers made the Favela chair like this.
