René Serrano was born in 1975 in C. Guanajuato, Mexico. Lives in Morelia Mexico.
After a year living in a Catholic seminary, he was “suggested” to leave the ecclesiastical career and finished the high school in Morelia, Mexico.
At 18 years old he starts a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration studies, he quit it to travel to the Canary Islands and central Europe to play music in the street.
He returns to Mexico to study Communication - Design.
At the same time, he starts to works as a trainee accountant and travels in the smalls indigenous communities in Mexico. He quit the Design School and return to Europe.
In 2002 he finished the bachelor’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts of Tournai in Belgium.
In 2005 he finished a Master degree in Arts and technologies at the European University of Madrid, Spain.
His artistic work has been exhibited individually and collectively in Mexico, Belgium, Ireland, Arab Emirates and in the United States.
Along with his projects, he has taught and directed programs in Mexican universities like:
La Salle University, Autónoma de Querétaro University and Tecnológico de Monterrey in different campus.
Selected for the Mediatine award in Belgium, the Morelia Film Festival; he has also won prizes for acquisitions and selections in various contests, publications and festivals such as the Cervantino in Guanajuato, and other biennials.
He has received a few grants from the Ministry of Culture in Mexico, including:
“Creators with a career”, “Young Creators” and “Artistic Co-investments”.
His body of work appears as part of private collections as well as inside museums such as the Morelia Contemporary and the National Anthropology photo library in Mexico.
He divides his time in personal artistic projects and privates projects.
He is an audiophile and amateur musician.
