[Ongoing project] Inspired by a grafitti on a billboard announcing the forthcoming construction of a new apartment complex in my town, I have started collecting dye-producing plants on the sites of local land parcels slated for construction. Many of the plants are what we would call weeds (goldenrod, wild blackberry, nettle) and others are ornamental plants (barberry, firethorn, ivy) from the gardens of the single-family dwellings due to be demolished. With these plants I am dyeing cotton fabric and wool yarn, working toward the creation and exhibition of textile objects that capture the colors of the plants whose home ground will soon be paved in concrete and metal.
