#424 Light it up / YOU LampThe YOU project is the culmination of critical design research conducted in 2021/22 as part of the Artist & Researchers Residency in Guiniguada Gran Canaria in collaboration with Endre Lehel Paksi. For more than three weeks of the residency, the author and her six-year-old daughter visited the island's most polluted beaches, collecting micro and macroplastics. The final result was several hundred test tubes filled with colorful waste. The glass test-tubes were used to create a site-specific installation entitled "YOU," which was presented by the artist on one of Gran Canaria's beaches. The material contained in the test tubes, collected during the residency, was then used to create an interactive lamp under the theme "YOU." Made from plywood scraps and rake handles, the lamp uses a distance sensor to activate the light message "YOU," generated using morse code. The lamp's form resembles that of a lighthouse, whose mission is to point the way to salvation....
