#429 PlastsupperThe Plastsupper, featuring artist-in-residence duo Dominika Sobolewska and Michalina Kostecka from Wroclaw, delves into the complex relationship between humanity and plastics. Through sensory, participatory experiences, the artists illuminate the intricate ways plastic has woven itself into our daily lives and ecosystems. The title, a play on the Last Supper, evokes the idea of a final, critical reckoning—an ironic feast highlighting the pressing issue of plastic pollution. The project raises provocative questions: "What truly remains natural in our lives?" and "Where do we draw the line between the artificial and the organic?" Plastic, though born of natural resources like crude oil, has permeated the environment and even our bodies, blurring distinctions between the synthetic and the natural world. As part of the residency, the artists will present their individual perspectives on the issue, with the blending of their visions aimed at enhancing the visual and sensory expression of the project. They will design not only a menu where food mimics the appearance of macroplastics, but also the scenography, decor, video art, and sensory body performances. The culmination will be a public dinner that compels participants to confront the tangible presence of plastic in their daily lives. This meal—set within a space adorned with macroplastic-inspired decor—will immerse attendees in a visceral reflection on our reliance on plastic. The event will serve as a platform for critical dialogue about our entanglement with this pervasive material. The collaboration transforms the kitchen into a laboratory of artistic and environmental exploration. Sobolewska’s research and Kostecka’s interventions to challenge conventions in food art and environmental activism, pushing participants to reconsider the impact of plastic consumption. The process will be documented through video and photography, capturing the evolution of this creative endeavor. Plastsupper is more than a provocative artistic statement; it is a cultural event that invites the Brno community to engage with the ecological consequences of plastic. By merging art with environmental discourse, the performance aims to inspire both reflection and action, demonstrating the power of creative practice to provoke change in the face of global challenges.
